You may begin to teach your puppy the two commands you’ll use most frequently on a daily basis—”Sit” and “House” (also known as “crate”)—now that you know how to issue a command. As we previously discussed, until your puppy learns the appropriate behaviours connected to the orders, you might need to apply the handy lure technique.
Some pups may instinctively want to sit at your feet when you give them the “Sit” command, especially if you are holding a valuable prize. However, it isn’t always the case, and it also doesn’t mean that your puppy will sit when you ask them to. Bring the food over your puppy’s head and nose to gradually lead them into a sitting position as you bring the lure to their nose. Your puppy will automatically lift their head and lower their hind when they follow this movement! Say the command “Sit” to your dog, and you may mark their performance with a “Good!” before rewarding them with food!
Your puppy will grow accustomed to using their “House” or crate on a daily basis, particularly while they are potty training and have a set routine. However, if putting their puppy in their crate is something they have never done before, you may need to urge them to do it. Relying on the luring method, teach your puppy to go into the crate with a piece of food, saying “House,” and rewarding them when they do! To really assist them feel comfortable in the crate and to reinforce the instruction, you can even offer them a couple extra bits of food while they are inside.
To encourage your dog to jump in and retrieve the treat, try tossing in a special treat ahead of time if they need a little additional encouragement!
