There are so many benefits to canicross but before we run through them, what is canicross? It’s the sport of cross country running with your dog. The dogs are harnessed and attached to us humans. I developed a passion for canicross after we had our rescue dog Lottie. I took her on a few runs to see how she got on and it soon became one of our weekly highlights. So why take up this sport?
Number 1 -It’s great bonding! It’s a joint effort and encourages teamwork! Dogs use voice cues for guidance on the run. Canicross provides a great outlet for dogs with a high prey drive, are unable to go off the lead,
Number 2 -It gives anxious or reactive dogs a “job” to do, providing structure and reducing stress by allowing them to focus on the run rather than potential triggers.
Number 3- Canicross also has an huge effect on our lives. For many people it has helped with their mental health as well as physical health
Number 4- It helps keeps our dogs fit, keeps weight down and builds muscle tone.
Number 5- it helps build dogs confidence as well as improving mood, well being and providing mental stimulation for your dog.
